Historians Michael Brenner and Pamela Nadell will speak about the lives of Jewish people in Germany and the United States following the end of the Second World War. Brenner, the author of A History of Jews in Germany since 1945: Politics, Culture, and Society (Indiana University Press, 2018), and Pamela Nadell, the author of America’s Jewish Women: A History from Colonial Times to Today (W.W. Norton, 2019), will discuss how the Jewish communities in both countries have evolved in the nearly 75 years since the end of the Holocaust. A representative of the Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste), a German peace organization founded to confront the legacy of Nazism, will also join the panel. The conversation will be moderated by journalist Marc Fisher of The Washinton Post.

Michael Brenner is the Seymour and and Lillian Abensohn Chair in Israel Studies and Director of American University‘s Center for Israel Studies.

Pamela Nadell is the Patrick Clendenen Chair in Women’s and Gender History, and chairs American University’s Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies Collaborative, and is the Director of the Jewish Studies Program.

Marc Fisher is a senior editor at The Washington Post and reports on a wide range of topics. He has been the enterprise editor, local columnist and Berlin bureau chief, among other positions, over 30 years at the paper. Fisher wrote several Post articles that won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2016 and the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2014.

Presented in partnership with the American Jewish Committee.
