The powerful World Press Photo Exhibition represents the best visual journalism of the past year. It is seen by 4 million people in 100 cities across the globe. This is photojournalism at its best and most thought-provoking.

Images explore a wide range of topics including race and policing, gender identity, refugees/migration, conflicts in the Middle-East, climate change, gender reassignment, wildlife protection, desert marathons and more.

The venue is the Dupont Underground; a massive abandoned trolley station under Dupont Circle. It houses 21 projectors casting 13' images of the year's most important stories, a wall of large prints of WPP prize-winning photographs and a retrospective of 60 years of Photos of the Year. Partner exhibitions include the honorees of the International Women’s Media Foundation's Anja Niedringhaus Award, photographs of four African Photojournalism Database photographers, and images honoring the work of Agence France-Presse photographer Shah Marai who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year.

This powerful exhibition is brought to you for a second year by the LIghtscape Foundation, which collaborates with leading think-tanks, universities, embassies, international-, media-, and civil society organizations to highlight the issues behind the images.

— About the World Press Photo Foundation

We are a global platform connecting professionals and audiences through trustworthy visual journalism and storytelling.

Founded in 1955 when a group of Dutch photographers organized a contest to share their work with an international audience, the competition has grown into the world’s most prestigious photography award and our mission has expanded.

We encourage diverse accounts of the world that present stories with different perspectives. We exhibit those stories to a worldwide audience, educate the profession and the public on their making, and encourage debate on their meaning.

The World Press Photo Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We receive support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery and are sponsored worldwide by Canon.
