U Street Music Hall presents the first-ever Blisspop Disco Fest, a two-day celebration of the evolution of disco featuring performances from some of the most recognized names in dance music. Giorgio Moroder, the pioneering producer who is rightly called the «Father of Disco,» and acclaimed German dance DJ/producer Claptone will headline separate shows at the 9:30 Club. Late-night festivities at U Street Music Hall will include DJ sets from London-based queer disco collective Horse Meat Disco, DFA's Holy Ghost!, Juan Maclean, and Nancy Whang (of LCD Soundsystem) and more.
The weekend's four shows will let listeners appreciate disco’s past, present, and future, with performances by international superstars and sets from some of the area’s best disco DJs and producers. Don't miss out, disco fans!
Horse Meat Disco
Horse Meat Disco is dedicated to the industry of human happiness and it pumps it out every Sunday at THE EAGLE LONDON (formerly South Central). Its the queer party for everyone; Homos and Heteros, club kids, bears, fashionistas, naturists, guerilla drag queens and ladies who munch. Musically its a disco behemoth of classics, italo disco, oddities, punk funk in the friendliest venue south of the river. Plus weekly buffet, happy hour, decorations, and spontaneous acts of exhibitionism.
Born from a monthly party in Washington, DC, the Sleaze DJs have a mission to deliver an aural evocation of bygone eras of the LGBTQ underground in the context of a modern club experience. Combining their love of disco, house, and everything in between (and beyond), DJs Lemz and Keenan Orr strive to push sonic boundaries while simultaneously paying deference to a past personified by its music and dance floors.
While the District of Columbia has seen a fluctuation of creative types recently, few artists have made their mark in our nations capital like OZKER. Organic and locally grown, OZKER has established himself with his fun and sophisticated approach to his DJ sets, original music, remixes, and visual art which resonate his obsession for the past with his sights on the future. His devotion to the infectious groove and its counterpart, the bottomless beat, is matched only by his devotion to that trademark follicle foliage that you’re bound to see bobbing up and down behind turntables throughout the city! OZKER has opened for Acts such as Basement Jaxx, James Murphy, Juan Maclean, Gorgon City, Claude VonStroke, Nickodemus, Rich Medina, Gigamesh, Classixx, Tensnake, Oliver, Chris Malinchak, Louis La Roche, Anna Lunoe, Will Eastman, Nadastrom & Sabo, Holy Ghost!, Tiger & Woods, Bit Funk, Curses!, Midnight Magic, The 2 Bears, Bixel Boys, Option4, Ben Browning (of Cut Copy), Dillon Francis, The Bloody Beetroots, Talib Kweli, Little Boots, Robert Delong & Ariana Grande, to name a few. You can find OZKER through out the year working with some of D.C. top clubs, DJs and traveling with the likes of HOT IN HERRE, NO SCRUBS and REV 909. He also holds residencies including nights at U Street Music Hall, Marvin, Dodge City & The Velvet Lounge.
